Writer's Roadmap: Got Published... Now What?
Hey Alexa... Play "Temptation Sensation" by Heinz Kiessling.
Let me start this post off by apologizing. After last week’s try-hard essay, I was a bit drained and simply couldn’t come up with anything meaningful this week—sorry ‘bout that. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t have anything to talk about.
For instance, I managed to get a poem published.
I know, right?
It’s coming out on February 17 on Brave Voices Magazine so go check it out when that goes online. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to accomplish my dream of getting creative writing published so quick into the year but nonetheless I’m grateful. Though, that does mean that I will be fulfilling the second part of that aforementioned dream and get a tattoo of some sort to commemorate the occasion and to hopefully welcome in more luck as I try for a new objective: get creative writing published—and get paid for it. We’ll see if anything comes of that. Of course, I’ll be writing, reading, and submitting as I’ve been (I’ll be elaborating on that in a little bit) probably after the 17th. For now, I’m gonna try to enjoy this shit and maybe have a beer later this evening—not bad for someone who’s been writing poetry for less than a year, eh? I guess that whole 1/1/1 reading and writing routine has been doing numbers for me pretty well so far.
Other than the obvious (I did mention all of that last week), new writing’s been okay. I’ve since dropped the 1/1/1 routine as work as had its way with me for the past three weeks (throw in an unexpected flooding situation due to a broken washing machine and the regimen gets left in shambles). For whatever reason I’ve been pretty good with drafting new poetry most days even if it’s just a small haiku or something. I believe that I wrote some sort of form poem a couple days ago about hating frozen foods after watching a timpano/timballo get made on YouTube (I was very hungry and I like good food). But, yeah, unfortunately, I’ve just been keeping busy with bits of poetry as of late. I plan to revisit and try to finish a short story that I meant to finish last month before going back to drafting my novel since that’s gone off the rails the most. I hope that I can live up to my own expectations.
That’s all I’ve got to purge out of my head this week. Uh, happy early Valentine’s day for the couples and for the singles partaking in festivities this year. Oh, also I hope that people enjoy the super sportsball event happening this Friday, I’m rooting for the Rams and I’m looking forward to all of the memes following the lack of a release date announcement for Kendrick Lamar album happening after the halftime show. Keep in mind that I don’t watch American football nor do I give a shit, I’m kinda just using it as an excuse to drink and fuck up my arteries with burgers and wings. Honestly, I might just live-tweet the commercial spots just to live through the cringe of most of them and to echo empty thoughts I had as they’ve already hit YouTube and spoiled the surprise already. Again, we’ll see. As always, I hope you’re all doing well, remember to take care of yourselves, and stay hydrated.
