Writer's Roadmap: I'm Sorry + I'm Not Gonna Regret This Decision
Hey Alexa... Play "Daten" by Creepy Nuts.
So, I’m back. It’s nice to be able to sit down and write to anyone who still haunts this place. But I come bearing some bad news: I’m going to stop with the biweekly posts here. With work and how many might be speculating about this decision becoming officialized given my thoughts over the last few posts, I feel that this is the best decision going forward. Not only am I at an interesting point in my life where I need to figure out some adult matters but I also need to figure out the best way to keep myself motivated to continue to write. Unfortunately, I have been figuring out that I am not as organized with managing my larger writing projects, both personal and for the Substack site, as I was with my poems earlier this year (which, in all honesty, kind of make sense—they’re freaking poems). And because of that disorganization and my inability to navigate through my gallery of developments, I need to step back and slow things down just so I can actually complete things. Just to give you all a quick view of what I have not finished writing yet, just take a look:
The draft of a new short story that would become my latest work in the medium since 2020.
The first issue of that isekai project.
A goddamn Boku no Hero Academia fanfiction project because I’m a fucking nerd and I couldn’t stop myself.
The Disco Elysium essay series.
The first draft of my novel (even after four years, I can’t settle on whether or not I want it to be a novel or a comic series).
Needless to say, I’m a hot mess right now. So, I’ve got to get my shit together. Though, with all of this said, this is in no way an end to The Morning Owl. I’m just going to eliminate my previous posting schedule and let those writings come out when they are ready. To those who are disappointed in me after reading this, I sincerely apologize to you all—I’m more than thankful to have any sort of public audience around these parts so I’m sorry if I am letting you all down. I want to continue doing this for a long time and I intend to do that through this new change.
Other than that, there’s not much else that I wanted to say. As far as what’s most likely going to come out next, it’ll probably be the What I Liked in Q2 list since that’s way overdue at this point. Expect that sometime later this month.
Thank you all for taking time out of your day to pay me some attention. Please enjoy this little playlist and I hope you all enjoy the weekend.
Thank you for reading this edition of The Morning Owl. If you liked what you saw here, please leave a like, subscribe, leave a comment, and share this newsletter. Until we meet again, do take care.
Hey, you gotta do what’s best for you! I had planned to post on a regular schedule as well, but I’ve *definitely* not been able to keep to the standard I set for myself either.
People come here for *you,* for your writing, for your voice.
I think you said it perfectly with the “let those writings come out when they are ready.” You don’t want to force yourself to make a deadline and have you or your writing for it! We’ll still be here when your projects are ready 😊
