As for writing without fear and being proud of your work, I saw something the other day (about art, but I'd say this still applies to all creative work) that went something along the lines of: "It's okay if only one person likes your work and it's okay if the only person who likes it is you." Chances are, if you like it, and have poured yourself into it because you enjoy writing it for yourself, other people are bound to see some of that bit of your soul in it and (probably) like it.
That's why I love reading so many different writers' work here and everywhere. Everybody's got a different bit of good only they can put out there. I enjoy your stuff because it has an incredibly specific voice to it. I can completely hear you here :P
